You can send bulk WhatsApp messages to customers, but only safely through the WhatsApp Business API, with message templates Meta has approved and customers who agreed to hear from you. Blasting a list from a normal WhatsApp account is the fastest way to get a number banned.
Why the normal app is the wrong tool
The WhatsApp Business app has broadcast lists, but a broadcast only reaches people who saved your number. Tools that go further, like modified WhatsApp apps or browser extensions that paste messages into hundreds of chats, break WhatsApp's terms. When enough people block or report you, the number is restricted or banned, often with the whole customer history on it.
The official way
- Connect your number to the WhatsApp Business API, usually through a provider. See what the API is.
- Get a message template approved. Any message you start, rather than reply to, has to use a template Meta has reviewed. Promotions and win-back offers go in as marketing templates.
- Only message people who opted in. Customers who bought from you or asked to be kept updated. A list bought from somewhere else is how templates get paused.
- Send inside your daily limit. Meta caps how many different people a business can start conversations with in a rolling 24 hours. It usually starts at 250 and rises to 2,000, 10,000 and 100,000 as the business verifies and keeps a good quality rating.
What keeps a campaign from backfiring
- Watch template quality. If many recipients block or report a marketing template, Meta pauses it, and can then disable it. Short, relevant messages to people who know you avoid that.
- Send in daytime hours. A promotion at 11pm gets reported more than the same message at 10am.
- Be ready for the replies. A bulk send is only useful if someone answers the people who write back. That is where an AI agent helps: it answers every reply straight away, from your real prices.
